The initial chapter grabbed me, but didn’t hold my interest until I was about a third of the way through. Once I was hooked, though, I couldn’t put it down.

I’m fortunate enough to have never lost a sibling, but I found the main character irritating in her obsession over her deceased sister. Many of the decisions she makes revolve around her sister, to the point where her grief had reached an unhealthy level and her behavior would surely not endear her to the other characters.

As much as I found the main character irritating, the supporting characters (Billy, Leo, Nadine) were great and made this an interesting read in the end.

I really enjoyed this book both from the family/sports dynamics and the bits of German that were interspersed. (I know some German, so it was neat to test my vocabulary!) A read that kept me interested and turning the pages throughout the whole thing. I couldn't wait to see what happened. While I knew nothing of field hockey, I liked learning about it and the culture.
I loved this book! It only took a few pages and I was hooked. Be prepared to read until you are finished, and have a couple of tissues handy! The story is heartbreaking and funny at times. The characters come to life and not being very sporty myself, it is a fascinating setting for the storyline. You will not regret buying this book!
I had the good fortune to receive an advance review copy of 'No Number Nine', in exchange for an honest review. This is a heart wrenching story of loss, coming to terms with not only that loss but the mistakes made and coming out on the other side. I cried... I laughed... I punched the air and yelled 'YES!!!". Watching Pip move her way through her pain and become strong woman with a firm belief in who she was and what was right and what could and could not be forgiven was a pleasure. I will recommend this book to everyone and I look forward to what F.J. Campbell comes up with next!
