The Girl with the Iron Touch The Steampunk Chronicles Kady Cross Books Reviews

This is the third book in this Steampunk Chronicles series. In my opinion each book was better than the last and I loved the first book. Kady Cross knows how to hook you in the very first part of the book and it is very difficult to put the book down until you turn the last page and then you wish you had more to read. I love the development of each of the characters in this story and the relationships are so fun to follow, each one developing more with each book. I remember sighing when Finley and Griffin finally kiss. I wondered if it would every happen and in this book things progress very nicely. The automatons are scary and fascinating to read about and I love the steampunk part of the book. I hope to read many more books written by Kady Cross; she is immensely talented.
For all that the book revolves around one of their own being taken, potentially by a madman who swore revenge on all of them, this book surprisingly lacks tension. It was almost casual how the characters approached Emily's kidnapping and how they were going to rescue her, and I felt that similar to the readers, the characters knew that they would save their friend and the day so why feel too strained by the situation. This feeling is only heightened by the way Finley's and Griffin's relationship develops during the plot.

I thought this series started off great, but with each addition I feel that the story is losing its spark and direction. The next book may be my last if it is as subpar as this one.
This series is still one of the best examples of steampunk novels to date (The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare being the other)! Kady Cross has managed to wow me once again, and I can't wait to see what comes next. The one thing I loved about this book was the fact that we were invited into the life of Emily, who is a main character in the previous books, but is never brought to the forefront POV-wise. We find out a lot more about Emily, from her backstory to just how her mind works, and I loved every minute of it. Emily was always one of my favorites, and immediately stood out in the first novel, so I was excited to read more about her. While the storyline is similar to the first two books, it is still unique to this novel, and is sure to blow any fan of the series away. The novel is well-paced, and I couldn't put it down. The story flies by, and the next thing you know, it's the end of the story and you want the next one!

A lot of things happen in this novel, but Ms. Cross's writing is so spectacular that the story is never overwhelming or confusing. There are plenty of action scenes that are extremely well written, but there is also a great deal of romance. I loved being able to have a glimpse into Emily and Sam's love, and I can't wait to read more about it. While a lot of stories could be bogged down with romance, Kady Cross never wavers from the plot. The romance is mentioned, and it's always a thought in the reader's mind, but that doesn't stop the plot from charging ahead and sweeping you into a fantastical world that you never want to leave.

The Machinist returns in this novel, and I must say, he is even creepier/scarier than before. This novel was definitely unpredictable, and there were so many twists and turns you never see coming. The ever-lovable Jack Dandy makes several appearances, but I wish he was in the story just a little bit more. Ms. Cross is releasing a novella about Jack Dandy, and I'll be one of the first to snatch that story up!

Throughout this novel, you can tell how much research and ingenuity Kady Cross has when writing. The world and character building is fantastic, and I sincerely hope that this isn't the last in the series. I can't wait to read more about Finely and crew!!
